The employer

The George is a newly re-built pub restaurant with 45 covers which has recently undergone a £2 million rebuild and is the only bar restaurant in the beautiful village of Wickham Market. It is far more than a pub and is the centre of the community, owned by the community.

The job

As Head Chef you will head up the food and kitchen operation of this busy community pub, with the brief of making The George the best possible place to eat. You'll cook pub classics using fresh ingredients, as well as contributing weekly specials and designing new menus. Importantly, you will hold full responsibility for food quality, cost control, compliance, and kitchen profitability. You'll lead and manage the small kitchen team but will also be in the kitchen alone during certain shifts and must be comfortable with this.
The kitchen itself is brand new with excellent equipment - a pleasant place to work.

What you'll need

Proven experience as a Head Chef in a professional kitchen, or a Sous Chef ready to step up
Robust financial and performance management skills
Passion for using fresh ingredients and local produce
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience of supervising a kitchen team

The George is based at the centre of the idyllic village of Wickham Market, Suffolk

What you'll receive

£38,000 - £40,000 per annum dependent on experience
A bonus linked to GP targets - c.£2k-£3k pa
A share of the tips
Full time working c45-48 hours per week to include evenings and weekends
Possibility of regular Sundays off
Significant menu autonomy within the given brief
