The employer
A private family with estate of some 40 acres, comprising woodland, walled garden, tennis court, and pool.
The job
As Estate Grounds & Maintenance Operative you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the house, outbuildings, facilities, and grounds of a wonderful country house. Your focus will be on the 12 acres immediately surrounding the main house, whilst also overseeing an additional 28 acres and separate estate property as required.
You’ll be able to turn your hand to most things required on an estate, including grounds care (mowing, hedgecutting, spraying); woodland management and firewood; building maintenance (both repairs and preventative); maintenance of outdoor areas including swimming pool, tennis court, BBQs etc.
A truly diverse role which is all too rarely available.
What you'll need
A background working on private estates preferable
Woodland management skills, including chainsaw tickets
Experience using horticultural machinery
An ability to perform general building maintenance tasks to a good standard, including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and more
A working knowledge of the fabric of period properties
Ability to prioritise your workload around variables such as weather and emergencies
A proactive approach to an extensive, year-round task list
Obtainable references from recent employers
Willingness to undertake a DBS check
An enjoyment of the countryside and rural living
Full UK driving licence due to rural location
Where you'll be based
The estate is located in rural East Suffolk, close to Framlingham and Peasenhall
What you'll receive
- £30,000 per annum
- Working one weekend per month with two days off in the week
- Occasional additional hours paid as overtime or time of in lieu
- 28 days per annum holiday entitlement
