Estate Worker & Conservation Officer

The employer

A 3,000 acre traditional estate and registered park and garden with a range of historical features

The job

As Estate Worker & Conservation Officer you will take on a range of estate and land management tasks across the estate, including the implementation and management of a complex environmental stewardship scheme. The central aspect of the role will be to deliver on the objectives of the stewardship scheme, which is built around parkland grazing and the management of some habitat and species-rich river meadows.

You will oversee the whole environmental scheme operation, working with graziers to help achieve the schemes objectives, as well as other non-farming events and diversification projects on the Estate. The intention is to include additional parts of the Estate into a Landscape Recovery Scheme in the future, if the Pilot Scheme is accepted. Farming activity must also work in conjunction with the details of the stewardship scheme and Parkland Management Plan.

You'll undertake maintenance of the Estate, including fences, gates, and minor property maintenance; grassland, ditch, and wetland maintenance.

You will assist with conservation projects, including the establishment of hedges and tree planting and keeping and recording of ecological/habitat records, whilst monitoring water usage and a close watch kept for indications of leaks around the Estate.

You will work alongside other members of staff, including the current Forester/Estate Foreman, who will be retiring in the next few years.

Experience of working within a similar role within countryside or land management
An ability to liaise with, coordinate, and manage a variety of stakeholders to complete tasks including other members of the team, various Government agencies and tenants of the Estate.
