The employer
A luxurious historic manor house hotel with 12 acres of grounds and gardens including a fruit, herb and vegetable garden; apple and pear orchard; figs, apricots, honeyberries, strawberries, raspberries, red and blackcurrants; beehives; thirty herb varieties; kitchen garden; fountain ponds; herbaceous borders; terrace pots; chamomile lawn; cutting-flower beds; and rose gardens
The job
As Gardener you will bring your passion, flair, and creativity to take charge of all planting, cultivation, and propagation of plants, vegetables, fruits, and salads from seed.
You'll maintain optimum planting all year round, keeping all outside public areas in good condition and treating the space as it were your own garden.
You'll provide fruit, vegetables, salad and herbs for the kitchen, working with the Chef each year to decide on what to grow, and provide cut flowers for the hotels public areas, bud vases for the restaurants, and flowers for the bedrooms.
All hedgerows, lawns, and trees, are taken care of by a contract gardener and do not fall within the remit of this role.
What you'll need
Experienced gardener, preferably with a relevant horticulture qualification
Passionate and dedicated gardener
Exceptional cultivation and propagation skills
Driving licence and transport due to rural location
Where you'll be based
The hotel is based close to Ipswich, Suffolk
What you'll receive
£15.00 per hour
Working 32 hours per week annualised (weighted towards summer, naturally)
28 days annual leave
Meals on duty
