The job
As Construction Buyer you will be responsible for procuring all necessary materials, plant and external labour for construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Identifying suitable suppliers and subcontractors, obtaining quotes, negotiating prices and terms, and managing purchase orders.
- Ensuring materials and services are purchased at the most cost-effective prices while maintaining quality and adhering to project budgets.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance, and resolving any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
- Negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring favourable terms and conditions for the company.
- Ensuring materials and services meet the required quality standards and specifications.
- Tracking inventory levels and ensuring materials are available when needed, minimizing delays and waste.
- Working closely with project managers, estimators, and other team members to understand project requirements and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with the supply chain, such as price fluctuations, material shortages, and supplier delays.
- Ensuring all procurement activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, company policies, and legal requirements.
What you'll need
Previous experience in construction purchasing or procurement is essential.
In-depth knowledge of construction materials, plant, and subcontractors.
Strong negotiation skills to secure the best prices and terms from suppliers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, track inventory, and maintain accurate records.
Ability to identify and resolve issues related to procurement, supply chain, or supplier performance.
Proficiency in using procurement software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software
Driving licence and transport due to location
Where you'll be based
The offices are in a rural location in Thurston, Suffolk, and the role is 100% office-based
What you'll receive
£35,000 - £40,000 per annum dependent on experience
Working week of Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm
31 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
