Pump Street opened as a bakery in 2010 in the village of Orford, Suffolk, and was founded by father and daughter team Chris and Joanna Brennan. We continue to run our bakery and café in the village while also producing award-winning single farm craft chocolate, made from bean to bar at our premises nearby.
Our bakery remains at the heart of what we do — producing breads, pastries and seasonal products using high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques.

The job

As Baker you will work closely with our Head Baker and bakery team to support the production of breads, viennoiserie and seasonal products for our shop, café and online customers.

Responsibilities will include:

Production
• Assisting with the daily production of breads and pastry products
• Maintaining high standards of product quality and consistency
• Following production schedules and supporting efficient workflow in the bakehouse
• Ensuring workspaces and equipment are kept clean and organised
• Assisting with the preparation and organisation of ingredients and materials

Food Safety & Standards
• Following all food safety and hygiene procedures within the bakehouse
• Supporting the maintenance of the bakery’s HACCP and health and safety procedures
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation in all areas of production

Team Collaboration
• Working collaboratively with the bakery team to ensure smooth daily operations
• Supporting colleagues during busy production periods
• Assisting with the preparation of products for the shop, café and online orders

Learning & Development
• Developing technical baking skills under the guidance of the Head Baker
• Learning Pump Street’s baking methods and production standards
• Contributing ideas and enthusiasm to the bakery team

What you'll need

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about baking and eager to learn within a business that is committed to producing exceptional quality products.
Some professional baking experience or relevant training (bakery, pastry or similar) preferred
A genuine interest in artisan bread and bakery production
Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality products
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Reliability, organisation and a strong work ethic
Driving licence and transport due to location

Where you'll be based

The bakehouse is situated in Gedgrave, close to the village of Orford, on Suffolk’s heritage coast.

What you'll receive

£12.60 - £14.00 per hour depending on experience
Full time permanent contract working 40-45 hours per week, Tuesday–Sunday
Weekend working essential
Two consecutive days off per week,
28 days of annual leave (accrual of additional leave days with long service)
