The job

As Assistant Operator you will work with both livestock and the maintenance of the estate.

On the livestock side you will assist with the daily care and welfare of livestock, including feeding, bedding, and monitoring animal health. You'll carry out routine health checks and report any signs of illness or injury to the Livestock Manager, maintain cattle handling facilities and ensure equipment is in good working order, and assist with calving and other seasonal livestock operations.

For estate maintenance you will undertake hedge cutting with tractor-mounted hedge cutter, ensuring hedges are cut to the required height and shape as per estate management needs. You'll assisted with the implementation and management of the estate’s Countryside Stewardship Scheme, ensuring compliance with environmental best practices, such as habitat preservation, water management, and soil protection.

There will also be the repairing and maintaining of estate infrastructure like fencing, gates, tracks, and water systems, identifying areas in need of repair and taking proactive measures to ensure the estate is secure and well-maintained, as well as performing various maintenance tasks, such as clearing debris, managing drainage, and ensuring paths and tracks are in good condition and maintaining the overall tidiness of the estate by controlling brambles, weeds, and other overgrowth, ensuring the grounds are clean and aesthetically pleasing.

What you'll need

Experience of farm or estate work essential
Use of agricultural machinery etc
Physically fit with a love of working outdoors (in all weathers!)
Ability to work in a small team, with great communication and listening skills.
A polite and professional attitude

Where you'll be based

The estate is based near the village of Wrentham, Suffolk

What you'll receive

£30,000 - £35,000 per annum dependent on experience
Working 45-50 hours per week dependent on the season, to include occasional weekends
Full time permanent employment
28 days annual leave including bank holidays
