Architect Partner Designate

The employer

Roger Balmer Design was established 32 years ago and has developed an enviable reputation for excellence – they do not advertise or have a website as their work comes through word-of-mouth recommendation. Their clients appreciate quality and good workmanship, and value the private and discreet way that they conduct their business.

Projects are interesting, and tend to include listed buildings, be in a Conservation Area or a National Landscape, or have other special characteristics such as the clever use of sustainable technologies or be in a superior location. They also work on garden landscapes and bespoke interior projects

The job

As Architect Partner Designate you will work alongside Roger with a view that, eventually, you will be able to provide leadership, have partial ownership, and become a key stakeholder in the business.

You will assist in fronting up incoming enquiries, building on your existing local network to win work; actively prospecting and selling to ensure the practice continues to thrive and grow. You will lead the design of mainly residential projects from unique pieces of joinery to large new-builds, conversions, refurb and extensions, as well as many interesting larger planning projects for landowners, alongside a very strong and long-standing team of four technologists.

What you'll need

A qualified, and preferably chartered, architect with a high level of design skills and a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience
It is vital that you have experience working with the described typical client profile and project types, and have exceptional people skills and good connections within this area
To be a positive minded natural leader, who can communicate well with clients and colleagues alike, and work collaboratively and efficiently as part of a small team
Proficiency in VectorWorks would be preferable, as would the ability to hand draw/sketch
A genuine interest in sustainable construction and high-quality design
Solid and proven experience of successful contract and financial management, together with successful on-site delivery
Have experience of running larger projects on site and the ability to communicate well with contractors
Be well-organised and well-disciplined, and have a keen eye for detail

Where you'll be based

The studio is an attractive creative space, nicely situated in the centre of East Bergholt, with easy parking. There are lovely local walks in the Dedham Vale.

What you'll receive

£45,000 - £60,000 per annum dependent on experience and seniority
An annual performance related bonus
A clear pathway to partner within the firm
Working week of Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Paid overtime
33 days annual leave including Bank Holidays
